Collection of Tips & Tricks
Over time I've gathered many stuffs to know and put them in our guild Discord server but as I am lazy and got tired of repeating myself I've added all this mumbo-jumbo here for your delight and enjoyment.
So go enjoy already! These are not in any particular order either.
- Immediately add to guild for all the XP bonuses and others
- Get money into toon (10-20 million creds) to unlock all the XP boosts in Legacy (press Y)
- I open 80+ mails and sort all that (oof)
- I Space Barbie a proper dashing questing outfit, I do have principles.
- I get 2 or 3 companions to Affection 50 so I can have one or two for crafting fasterer to get to 700 and one to quest with – get the token from the Strongold vendor on fleet names “Victory” (something like that) for 4.25 million credits and 3 dark matter thingamabobs for a 1-click boost to 50.
- Unlock Speeder Level 1 if you’re a subscriber to get a mount at level 1
- Once I get all my stuff from collections and I’m ready to roll THEN I use a 25% major XP boost and THEN I consume titles as they give XP. Yeah levels do matter as you will not beat the planetary cap but you get your abilti<ies fasterer
- Go quest
- At level 10 hit fleet to do the Crafter quests (free XP) and you can start grinding your crew skills. Unless toon is a crafter I use Biochem for the reusable stims and adrenals, Scavenging + Archeology (mat gathering and speeding things in flashpoints)
- At level 10 go PvP to get the XP and the free ear/relics/implants
- At level 10 you can do Flashpoints but no one wants to do Black Talon or Esseles. At 15 you can Q for Hammer Station.
- At level 10 I clear the GSF starter quest for XP
- I tend to do all the sidequests on starter planets and the homeworld (Coruscant / Drommund Kaas) for XP, they’re quick enough
- Clear all the Heroics on the starter and home planets too for the free blue gear and XP
- Before you hit anything or go anywhere, get into guild for XP bonuses
- Press Y to turn on all the Legacy XP boosts you want with moneyz
- If you have the old cantina crates you get by mail open them you got a chace to get an xp boost with each one
- Use an XP boost THEN consume titles if you have them, you may get a free level just for that then do the “2nd class” mission but don’t complete as you exit on fleet go get the PvP/FP starter missions, stuffs and clear the Crafting trainer mission
- Then go onto starter world with a comp if you got, level 1 is more than fine, it will speed things up by dps’ing, healing is a waste
- Kill eveything in sight until level 5 or 6 then you get diminishing returns
- Press M for map, turn on exploration missions, I do those on starter world and homeworld
- At level 10 HIT FLEET. Get all the missions you can and do the crafter mission but do talk to all of the crafter NPCs as 1st chat gives XP
- Q for PvP, dying is fine, you want 1x WZ & 1x Arena to get ear/implants/relics for free. Also PvP is good XP
- Don’t do starter world heroics yet, do them to get back to home world but on fleet you can get & do the homeworld ones (Coruscant & DK) and do there, plus kill things for more XP, the XP per kill is better than starter world
- Do walk around for exploration XP
- 12- Want a free 3-hour XP boost? On your ship there is a starter mission for the space missions, do that for the XP boost but you should have 3-5 once you get your ship
- Do kill world bosses
- Then grind story and FPs I find these to are the most generous, and do bonuses in both too. GSF is also very good XP.
- GTN your weekly Encryption plans, our guilds do not need them as we’re fully unlocked (check with your other GMs too). Every character in guild which reaches conquest gets one.
- Flashpoint purple drops and Masterwork drops: you level so fast that gear is not an issue, do not spend to keep up. But do GTN these drops as players are willing to pay good credits for these.
- Decoration drops are good money on GTN too, if you don’t Space Barbie’s Dreamhouse too hard, you might prefer credits
- Selling crafting materials is a good source of income, do harvest what you see. Plus you can play the market of “buy low sell high” smartly too on GTN.
- If you feel like a gambler, buy and open a Hypercrate’s 30 crates to GTN the whole lot. I make creds every 2 out of 3 crates and tend to keep stuff which is why I don’t turn a profit.
- Keep to hoard seasonal drops like the Casino Event armor/weapons, sell out of season.
- Go read Swtorista’s page on making moneyz
Want to avoid repetitive clicking in swtor? build a macro! Every gaming mouse vendor has software which you can use to automate processes like stupid massive click requirements.
Or repetitive kills! Say you want to do a 2500 kill achievo but like me you’re lazy. Set up a macro so the game thinks you’re there and boom, walk away.
Do note it’s against the EULA.
The trick is 3s macros (or 3000 milliseconds) for most things. In the example below I set it up for a self-heal cooldown cycle. If your mouse/keyboard maker does not have that in their software, use this link: https://gprivate.com/64g8e
Plenty of things you can do here are some basic ones:
1- In PREFERENCES:
- Controls: Camera max distance 100%
- Combat logging: Enable to file for StarParse
- Chat: turn off “filter profanity”
- User Interface: turn on subtitles & ailgnment gain, in tooltips everything on but group mission progress, turn on Show Cooldown Text for ability time to recast
2- Interface Editor:
- Operation frames: Debuff Scale @ 0.5 so I can see what to cleanse when healing! Same for group frames (FP, PvP)
- Player Frame: Show Information Text
- Enable “Target of Target” to see who gets beaten up, especially when tanking
What factors impact companion performance? Your level, your presence rating and your gear rating. The more the betterer.
Are all companions the same? Nopes. Here is a chart (aged a bit but you’ll get the idea) of which is best for what. For the nostalgic, here is older stuff.
In short:
- Top DPS: Shae (but apparently B3-S1 is about the same)
- Top healer: Zo-OM
- Top tank: does it matter?

The two guides I recommend:
Pro tips:
- Always send your comps on gathering missions when you can and do the “gathering missions” you get from certain mission or GTN, too.
- Our guilds are now CRIT for perks, both sides. That means you can crit harder on crafting, do turn on Professional Training:
- Max crit things: 1) buy legacy of crafting III 2) Comp that crafts at 50 3) Professional Training 4) craft with level 50 comps for max crit
- IMPORTANT: the cartel market companions DO NOT craft, like your Akk dog or others won’t craft. You’ve been warned.
- If you want to level fast a skill like Biochem, basically only do the “mats” crafting as 1) fastest to craft 2) usually cheapest 3) usable for crafting other things 3) highly gtn-able on the higher end. I’ll do the “longer” crafting time ones while questing as I don’t sit in front of the trainer.
- Comp quantity: on a “real” crafter I have 8 or 9 level 50 comps to speed up the process. Delays are maddeting and this greatly helps getting
done.
- ALSO: scavenge the GTN for crafting mats on a regular basis, some ppl don’t look at the price so they underprice by a ton, I keep my stores filled that
